Michael Walzer, Horizons of Freedom: On Political Action
Thursday, October 29, 16:00 – 18:00

Michael Walzer’s main recommendation in his book Political action: A practical Guide to Movement Politics to the engaged actors is to focus their attention on concrete issues and arguments and to acknowledge that this approach does not necessarily lead to grand theories of social change. However, his insights still escape the ever-increasing fragmentation of the public sphere generated by the various forms of neoliberal regimes.

Michael Walzer is a political theorist and professor emeritus at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey.

As capitalism is transforming into a species of technofeudalism, two seemingly mutually opposing authoritarianisms are rising up. Can an authentic freedom survive these circumstances and culminate into a progressive alternative worth fighting for?

Yanis Varoufakis is a member of the Greek Parliament and professor of Economics at the University of Athens.
